Shade and a cool drink of water are important, but during this hot streak it is even more important.  Our animals normal range of temperature is around 101-102' if you ever expect your dog/cat is above normal take their temp!
Especially if you suspect they are overheated from being outside in the elements.  If over 104' they need immediate attention. Animals that are black, overweight, have short muzzle (pug, bulldog etc.), overexerted or already have a existing illness are some examples of those susceptible to heatstroke.
